With a career spanning over two decades, Elie comes with a considerable experience in the areas of peace and conflict studies, humanitarian aid and human rights. Currently serving as the Managing Partner, Senior Consultant & Trainer at Elephas Consulting in Ottawa, Elie has played a crucial role in providing strategic guidance and expertise to international, regional and local not for profit organizations. Elie holds various academic positions as a Visiting Lecturer in the MENA region and is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Religion & Security Council in Rome since 2020. From 2013 to 2023, he served as the MENA Regional Director at the United States Institute of Peace after holding the position of Executive Director at the Arab Human Rights Fund (2011-2013) and the Iraq Program Manager at the Danish Refugee Council (2007-2011). In addition to being an international fellow of the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, Elie regularly contributes to publications throughout the MENA region, Europe and the United States and continues to serve on the board of directors for several regional not for profit organizations. Dr. Abouaoun holds a master’s in business administration and management and is a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
